When your OEM issues an EOL mandate, it can feel like the pressure is on to upgrade your equipment. Equipment manufacturers encourage us to believe that networking equipment may fail after the standard 3-5 years. And is therefore best replaced. But in reality, its useful life is much longer. The introduction of EOL mandates often just signifies that a manufacturer has introduced new equipment into the market and no longer wishes to invest in the older models. Upgrading may turn out to be the best option. But you shouldn’t feel pressured to invest in the newer models if your current equipment still provides the performance you need.
