Cisco Distribution warns of four month plus lead times!

Cisco lead time delays

Planning and scheduling the delivery of IT projects has just got more difficult, as current lead times on Cisco hardware are being extended day by day…

Imagine the scenario, your budgets have been approved and the next IT project is confirmed & scheduled for January 2010. You anticipate ordering the hardware in November/ December 2009 and then begin to focus on the planning, implementation & allocation of resources.

But… there is a spanner in the works…

The lead times for the Cisco hardware you have planned to order in December - will now be delivered in April 2010!

So the planned network upgrade is now at risk of running up to 4 months behind schedule!

Hardware.com has checked a few run-rate Cisco routers and switches on the official Cisco lead times tool, and for some of the most popular items, the lead times are now up to four months, with some even in excess of that!

So, If you're currently intending to purchase your network hardware from your preferred Cisco partner, please be aware that ALL Cisco partners, (who do not hold their own stock), will be effected and reliant upon the extended Cisco Lead times - it could therefore take many, many months for you to receive your order!

Returned products to Cisco cost them $8 million a year and generated over 2.5 million kilograms of waste. Now Cisco recycles and reuses 45% of that returned equipment, by using it internally for customer demos, in engineering labs, for spare parts and charitable causes.
